The 4th Scottish Italian Awards 2016 Gala Final
Date: Sunday November 13th 2016
Location: Double Tree by Hilton Hotels Glasgow Central (formerly The Thistle Hotel), Cambridge Street, Glasgow, G2 3HN
The Scottish Italian Awards Gala Final was a big celebration from start to finish; it kicked off with musical delights from The GAMTA musical theatre school before, X-Factor contestant and Scottish soprano, Nicola Cassells wowed the audience with a striking rendition of the Italian national anthem. The evening boasted top entertainment as guests were left stunned by a performance from ‘forensic mind reader’ Colin Cloud and danced well in to the night with nine-piece swing band, Schwing.
Capital FM presenter and funny-man, Des Clarke returned to host the evening and, joined by representatives from our sponsors and supporters, handed out the night’s awards to deserved individuals and businesses from across Scotland. Winners received not only the accolade but six months’ free membership to the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the UK, who officially endorse the awards.
The Italian Awards judges were set a difficult task this year as 2016 saw the fiercest competition yet. With over 1000 venues participating, the lucky finalists, voted for by the public, represented the nations favourites.
Finalists in the categories for Best Pasta, Best Pizza and Best Chef were put through their paces at the live cook-off in Glasgow on October 31st. The New Concept show room was witness to the work of the best pizza chefs from across Scotland as the finalists sought to delight the senses of celebrity judge, Aldo Zilli. The afternoon, at the Tennent’s Training Academy, saw Aldo joined by esteemed representatives from Glasgow City College to judge offerings for the Best Pasta competition before Scotland’s favourite Italians chefs presented their dishes in competition for the Best Chef title.
